CONGO AND INDIA, ALL IS WELL. CUBA, HELPING IS DIFFICULT, BUT THAT’S EXACTLY WHY WE’RE ALWAYS THERE.
Good morning!
This month we don’t have major news to share, but we continue managing daily aid projects, doing everything we possibly can. It may sometimes seem like little, but we assure you it is not…
ISIRO, CONGO:
About a hundred children are regularly assisted each day at the Gajen Center with food and also healthcare, thanks in part to ATF’s contribution. It’s a relief to see photos of mothers and children waiting for medical checkups at the Gajen Center. It’s wonderful to know they have this opportunity, isn’t it?
BAIRE, CUBA:
Unfortunately, the economic and social situation keeps worsening: a growing number of people need support even beyond their basic needs. There’s increasing “hunting” for items that can be stolen and possibly resold; and for now, there is no way to resume the afterschool program because the school itself is operating under increasingly precarious conditions.
It seems paradoxical, but at the same time, it’s getting harder to intervene and provide aid due to bureaucratic, logistical, and administrative obstacles.
Still, we believe it’s essential to try everything possible precisely because the situation is critical. ATF continues monthly support for 6 mothers and pays the salaries of 2 sewing teachers. We also recently confirmed to our local contact our readiness to intervene in emergency situations. If ATF can be helpful, we will be there.
THANDARAI, INDIA:
In April, 34 kg of rice, along with flour and other provisions, were donated to people in need. For the afterschool program, school holidays are underway and we’re waiting for exam results. This time is used for maintenance work, and the center remains open for drawing classes (a big thank you to our Italian friends who donated pencils, brushes, and crayons!), music, martial arts, and recreational activities.
There’s also a spoken English course being held with the help of Wilson, the project coordinator, and online lessons using the computers donated by ATF
