A CANTEEN, BUT NOT ONLY THAT, IN CONGO; STUDY AND FOOD IN INDIA
After the updates from Cuba and Italy (and Togo too 🙂 ), it’s now Congo and India’s turn – so much is happening!
ISIRO, CONGO
Maybe you’ve wondered: what is this canteen for the children that ATF supports every month like? What happens there every day? Well, here it is, the “more than just a canteen”: children receive a daily lunch, and mothers also take home a pot full of food for dinner. There’s also a nurse (the one in the light blue coat in the photos) who performs daily medical check-ups on both adults and children.
That’s no small thing – quite the opposite. We’re happy to support it (and we hope you are too!). There’s a lot to be done in that area… we also have some photos of people with disabilities and of the school.
On the other hand, we’re behind schedule on building the playground for a kindergarten in Isiro. We sent the funds donated by the Alpini of Milan in July, but there’s a logistical issue: the playground equipment needs to be purchased in Uganda, and at the moment the roads are unsafe and a bridge has collapsed. We’ll have to wait for the right time… hopefully soon.
IN THANDARAI, INDIA, as always, there’s a lot going on: in August–September, ATF supported the after-school program by providing materials for the building, daily snacks, notebooks for the students, and covering their transportation costs.
Since September, monthly support has also been provided for one of the two girls who started university. The other, who had also begun with our support, had to stop due to serious family issues; for now, we’ve suspended assistance, but we assured her that if she decides to continue, ATF will be there. Fingers crossed…
More: Wilson, founder and heart of the after-school program, occasionally organizes meetings with students to speak in English. During school holidays, there’s room for creativity and artistic talent – they draw!
There’s also substantial assistance being given: in August/September, 49 kg of rice and other supplies were provided to elderly people, and monthly support for physiotherapy continues.
