ITALY – REUSING WITH CREATIVITY AND COMMITMENT IS WORTH AT LEAST €54,000!
Altuofianco gives a second life even to unusual items. A vacuum-packing machine was donated to a food canteen for people in need; three bicycles went to an association that repairs them and makes them available to those who need them, while also organising bike trips and courses on bicycle mechanics and road safety.
Two fans will help cool the reception office for people experiencing homelessness, while a third will be used in another office.
And there’s more: children’s books and comics have reached paediatric hospital wards; warm clothes, shoes and mobile phones have gone to an organisation supporting migrants.
Other clothes, prescription and sunglasses, books for a library and many other items have found new homes, including abroad: India, Togo and Cuba. We’ll soon tell you where they are going and how they will be used.
And all of this is worth a lot! In just 12 months, the estimated value of the materials that have been reused and already delivered is at least €54,000! This is a very cautious estimate, based on deliberately low values for second-hand items.
With a little goodwill and creativity, we can give things a second life and, above all, help many people.
Since mid-June, we have had 14 donors in Italy (some of them “serial donors” ) and 3 donors abroad. A huge thank you to all of them!
ATF has worked with the Movimento Apostolico Ciechi; Opera Messa della Carità; Tommy Magri/Lainate Bike 365 Gradi Association; Savona Hospital, through a friend who delivers children’s books there; and Rifugio Fraternità Massi in Oulx.
