THANDARAI, INDIA: MORE PLATES — THAT IS, MORE STUDENTS. GOOD GRADES
How is the after-school program in Thandarai going?
Well, every day we receive photos of the snack plates lined up in rows that are getting longer and wider… It’s a fact: the number of students is increasing. There are now 20 of them, about fifteen of whom attend regularly. All the new arrivals, it seems, come through word of mouth — and that’s a very positive sign.
And what about ATF’s support? It is growing at the same pace: for snacks, for contributing to the transportation costs of a fifth student, and for school materials.
Monthly expenses have increased by 10–15 euros.
What about the students’ grades? The mid-year results are coming in, and they are all good. Among those we are following most closely is Jeevan, who is in twelfth grade this year and will take his official exam in a few months. He scored 384 out of 600. A very good result — we hope he does even better at the end of the year.
And what subjects are covered in the after-school program? In addition to their regular school subjects, when there is time Wilson gives English lessons, and some of his friends offer support in mathematics. And then, as always, there is space for drawing… The aim is to do as much as possible to support the children in their growth.
Food assistance: Since mid-January, 25 kg of rice have been donated in Thandarai, along with oil and other supplies. A concrete and valuable help for people and families in difficulty.
