HELP TO BAIRE

ALTUOFIANCO IS  ALSO IN CUBA!

We support the activities created by Don Carlo, an Italian priest, in the Parish of San Bartolomè in Baire (Santiago de Cuba), for:

  • Single mothers living alone in difficult situations. Don Carlo has implemented a system of aid that allows 25 of them (at the moment) to have individual monthly economic support for themselves and their children, as well as to join a group of girls in the same situation. Regular meetings among them can provide not only nourishment but also serenity, mutual support, a sense of belonging to a family, the development of awareness of being mothers and having to take care of their children, and the opportunity to learn a trade, through the gift of a sewing machine and teaching on how to use it.
  • After-school activities, which provide students with a place to study and teachers to supplement what is (or isn’t) being done at school. Given the current socio-economic situation in Cuba, public schools often lack utility, with no books or materials available, and motivation for studying is very low.

Everything is lacking in Cuba, and there is so much to do…

What does YourWings want to do?

  • For single mothers: support for their daily needs and those of their children, and assistance in learning a trade through the donation of a sewing machine for each woman and the payment of a teacher’s salary.
  • For the after-school program: donate a television, very useful for attracting students who lack motivation, and provide school materials (pens, notebooks, etc.).

Any examples of costs?

  • For new mothers: a “kit” consisting of a mosquito net, crib, mattress, baby products, sheets, diapers, clothing, soaps, and bath creams currently costs about 100 euros.
  • For single mothers: with 450 euros, expenses for the first year for a girl entering the assistance program can be covered (annual support + sewing machine + a phone + other expenses including medical visits and medicine), while for subsequent years, about 170 euros per year are sufficient.
  • For the after-school program, a few euros are sufficient for the purchase of notebooks, pencils, pens, etc.
